Wine Tasting 101: How to Taste Wine Like a Pro

In this course, we will examine the foundations of wine and wine tasting.  We start with the basics of wine: the grapes, the terroir, and the winemaking process. We then move on to the basics of wine tasting by examining our own senses: sight, smell, taste, and feeling. Finally, we put the two together in a methodical and scientific approach using a deductive tasting format to help us identify the wine, vintage, varietal, producer, and value.

The course is structured into three segments – each approximately 30 minutes long – providing two tastings of wine in each segment, one red and one white – for a total of 6 tasting over 1.5 hours. The two wines of the course will be tasted “blind” – giving you a shot at using your newly learned skills and fine-tuned senses to figure out the wine’s varietal, vintage, producer, region, and value. This is an incredibly fun, immensely educational, and very useful course for friends, family, coworkers, or even someone on their own, to explore critical thinking, and sharpen your senses. This course is scheduled once per month and can be reserved by making a reservation on a seat-by-seat basis or reserving the entire course for a private group.
